Recycled where practical

Junk removal in Brisbane, from one mattress to a full clear-out

Most homes and offices collect things nobody uses but nobody gets around to removing: the sofa replaced two years ago, a spare fridge humming in the garage, boxes stacked under the house, a meeting room of chairs that no longer match. Our junk removal service in Brisbane takes them away, loaded by a professional crew and delivered to an appropriate waste transfer or recycling station.

We handle single-item pick-ups and larger clear-outs across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. Typical jobs include:

  • Decluttering before a move, so you are not paying to relocate things you no longer want
  • Clearing a garage, shed or under-house storage area
  • Removing old furniture and mattresses once new ones arrive
  • Office clear-outs of surplus desks, chairs and equipment
  • Helping a family clear a parent's home after a downsize or a move into care

Under-house areas deserve a special mention in Brisbane. Queenslanders are high-set, and the space underneath is often used for storage, which makes it a natural collecting point for things that are no longer needed. If that is where most of your junk lives, tell us. Carrying from under a house, up a side path to the street, is a different job from carrying out of a front room.

What we take, and what we can't

Our junk and rubbish removal service accepts:

  • Furniture and household goods
  • Mattresses and bed frames
  • Appliances and whitegoods
  • Office furniture and equipment
  • Boxes, packaging and general household clutter

We do not take hazardous or prohibited materials. That means no chemicals, asbestos, gas bottles or flammable substances, and nothing else that cannot be legally or safely transported or disposed of. Paint tins, pool chemicals, fuel containers and gas cylinders need to be separated out before we arrive.

A note on old building materials

Queensland Government guidance notes that homes built before 1990 may contain asbestos in materials such as wall and floor sheeting, roofing and pipes. Brisbane City Council excludes lino and fibro sheeting from its kerbside collection for the same reason. Offcuts of old sheeting stored in a shed or under the house should never go into a junk pile. If you suspect a material contains asbestos, leave it undisturbed and contact a licensed asbestos removalist.

Where hazardous items can go

Brisbane residents have options for some of the items we cannot take. Council's resource recovery centres accept a limited number of standard gas bottles and some household hazardous items year-round, and run free hazardous waste drop-off days for others. Check Council's website for current rules before you load the car.

How junk removal is priced: time, plus disposal by weight

Some rubbish removal is sold as a flat price per load, which leaves you guessing what you are paying for. We price ours in two parts, so you can see where the money goes.

1. Service time

You are charged for the time involved: collection, loading, transport to the transfer station, unloading and disposal, plus depot-to-depot travel time or a call-out fee, depending on the job and location. Our hourly rates are $125 to $169 per hour + GST, depending on the type of move and truck size, for a truck and two movers, and the crew and truck allocated to your clear-out are confirmed in your quote.

2. Disposal fee

The waste disposal fee is charged separately, based on the actual weight and type of waste, in line with the transfer station's fees. The minimum disposal fee is $95 including GST.

Why weight and type matter

Transfer stations charge by what comes in, and general waste bound for landfill costs more to dispose of than material that can be recycled. One reason is the Queensland waste levy, which is charged per tonne on waste disposed to landfill but not on materials that are recycled. Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Logan all sit in the levy's metropolitan zone. Charging disposal at actual weight and type means you pay for what you send, rather than a flat estimate.

Access extras can apply as on any job, such as apartment stairs (per flight) or a driveway the truck cannot use, each $48 including GST, along with any parking or permit costs. Every charge is confirmed in your quote before you book. See our pricing page for the full list.

Council kerbside collection or a booked junk removal?

If you live in Brisbane, it is worth knowing about Council's kerbside large item collection before you book anyone. It is a free service for residential households, scheduled for one week a year in each suburb, and it takes many of the same things we do, including furniture, mattresses and whitegoods. If your suburb's collection lines up with your plans, it is a good option.

Its rules are worth knowing too, because they show where a booked service makes more sense:

  • Items must be easily and safely lifted by two people
  • Piles larger than two cubic metres, about a small box-trailer load, are not collected
  • Everything has to be carried to the kerb by you, within the set window
  • Commercial properties are not eligible
  • Lino and fibro sheeting, gas bottles, chemicals and hazardous waste are excluded

A booked junk removal suits the jobs that fall outside those lines: heavy items, larger loads, things that need carrying out from inside the house, upstairs or underneath it, business clear-outs, and deadlines that cannot wait for your suburb's turn, such as a settlement or a lease end. You choose a day that suits, subject to availability, and nothing sits on the footpath in the meantime.

Where your junk goes, and what we won't promise

We take collected items to an appropriate waste transfer or recycling station and arrange disposal. Where practical, recyclable items go to recycling facilities to minimise general waste. Metals, whitegoods, cardboard and electronic waste all have recycling streams at Brisbane's resource recovery centres, so separating them is worth doing.

What we will not do is promise outcomes we cannot control. We do not claim that every item will be donated or recycled. Recyclables are separated where practical, and the rest is disposed of properly at an appropriate facility.

If something is good enough for someone else to use, set it aside before we arrive. Sell it, give it to a friend or check with a charity that it will be accepted. If you would like us to drop it somewhere as part of the same job, that is an additional drop-off location, charged at $48 including GST, plus the time involved.

Clearing out before a move or an office relocation

The easiest item to move is the one you never have to move. Clearing junk before moving day means a smaller load, fewer hours and a new home or office that starts uncluttered.

For households, the right time is a few weeks out, once you know what will fit in the new place. Book the junk removal for a separate day before the move, or mention it when you request a quote for your house move and we will plan both together.

For businesses, a relocation is the natural moment to retire broken chairs, old desks and surplus equipment. We collect office furniture and equipment as part of junk removal, and our office removals team can scope the clear-out alongside the move. Before computers, phones or printers go, have your IT provider wipe or remove any data storage. Data destruction is not part of our service.

Booking a clear-out: what to send us

The more we know before the day, the more accurate your quote and the fewer surprises on site. When you request a quote, include:

  • A list or photos of the items, with rough sizes and quantities
  • Where they are: inside, upstairs, in the garage, under the house or in a shed
  • Anything unusually heavy, such as a solid timber wardrobe or a chest freezer
  • Access details: stairs, lifts, long carries and where the truck can park
  • Your preferred date, and any deadline such as a settlement or lease end

For apartments and commercial buildings, you arrange lift bookings, loading zones and building access. We can tell you which truck and timing to request. A deposit secures your booking, with the balance payable on completion, and we ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule.

Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours (8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday). We collect across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, plus Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay.

Junk removal checklist: before the truck arrives

  • Photograph each item or pile and note where it sits: inside, upstairs, in the garage or under the house.
  • Mark everything that is staying with tape or sticky notes, so nothing goes by mistake.
  • Separate out anything hazardous, including paint, chemicals, fuel, gas bottles and any material that may contain asbestos.
  • Empty fridges and freezers, and let them defrost and drain before collection day.
  • Have your IT provider wipe or remove data storage from computers, phones and office equipment.
  • Check drawers, cupboards and pockets for documents, keys and valuables.
  • Arrange parking or a loading zone close to the pick-up point, and tell us about stairs or long carries.
  • Set aside anything you want sold, donated or given away, and confirm it with the new owner first.

Questions

Good to know.

How much does junk removal cost in Brisbane?

Junk removal is charged in two parts. Service time covers collection, loading, transport, unloading and travel or call-out, and is charged by the hour. The disposal fee is separate, based on the actual weight and type of waste at transfer station rates, with a minimum of $95 including GST. Your quote confirms the charges before you book.

Is the disposal fee included in the hourly rate?

No. Disposal is charged separately because it depends on what you are throwing away and how much it weighs. The minimum disposal fee is $95 including GST.

What items can't you take?

We do not take hazardous or prohibited materials, including chemicals, asbestos, gas bottles, flammable substances and anything that cannot be legally or safely transported or disposed of. If you are unsure about an item, describe it when you request a quote.

Do you take old mattresses and fridges?

Yes. Mattresses, bed frames, appliances and whitegoods are all accepted. Please empty fridges and freezers and let them defrost and drain before collection.

Will my junk be recycled?

Where practical, recyclable items are taken to appropriate recycling facilities to minimise general waste. We do not promise that every item will be recycled or donated. If something is good enough to reuse, set it aside and arrange it with a charity or new owner.

Can you remove junk from inside the house, upstairs or under the house?

Yes. Unlike a kerbside collection, our crew collects items from where they are. Tell us about stairs, long carries and tight access when you request a quote, because these affect the time involved, and some carry a $48 including GST charge, such as apartment stairs per flight.

Do you do rubbish removal for businesses?

Yes. Office furniture and equipment are accepted, and business clear-outs can be booked on their own or alongside an office relocation. Have your IT provider wipe or remove data storage from computers and devices before collection.

Do you offer junk removal on the Gold Coast?

Yes. We collect across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee depending on the location, and confirmed before booking.
