North Brisbane removalists, from the river to the ridges
Brisbane is informally split into the northside and the southside, with the Brisbane River as the dividing line. North of the river covers more ground than most people picture: the inner north-east around Ascot and Hamilton, the riverside density of New Farm and Teneriffe, the hills of Paddington and Bardon, and the western suburbs on the river's northern bank, out to Fig Tree Pocket and Pullenvale.
No single description fits all of that. A Teneriffe apartment, a Bardon Queenslander and a Pullenvale acreage property need different crews, different timing and different equipment. So every northside quote starts with the property itself: the stairs, the parking, the turns and the pieces that need extra care.
The rate stays simple: $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck, two professional movers and all standard equipment. Additional movers and larger trucks are available for bigger homes and commercial jobs, with charges confirmed before you book.
Riverside apartments and converted wool stores
The inner-north river suburbs are some of the densest in Brisbane. New Farm recorded the highest population density in Greater Brisbane at the 2011 Census, and apartments and units now make up more than 70 per cent of its dwellings. Next door, Teneriffe has changed from a riverside industrial hub into a mostly high-density area as its wool stores and factories became apartments. Downstream in Hamilton, riverside land that once held wharves and industry is being redeveloped as Northshore Hamilton.
In these buildings, the building sets the rules:
- Lifts and loading docks. Book the goods lift and loading area with building management at both ends, and confirm the permitted move times.
- Converted buildings. Long internal corridors and a lift sized for residents rather than a three-seat sofa are worth checking early. Measure the lift car and your largest pieces before the day, and we'll dismantle what needs to come apart.
- Street loading. Brisbane City Council lets a commercial vehicle that is loading or unloading goods use a commercial loading zone for up to 20 minutes without a permit. A full move takes longer, so plan a dock, a driveway or a permit. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
Our apartment removals work to each building's requirements, from a one-bedroom downsize to a full penthouse.

Hills, stairs and Queenslanders
Away from the river, the northside climbs. Paddington sits in a valley in the foothills of Mount Coot-tha and is extremely hilly, with most of its shops on ridgetop roads such as Given Terrace and Latrobe Terrace, and many of its Queenslanders raised on stilts. In Bardon, the main streets follow the ridgelines while the streets between them are steep, and standalone houses made up 81.2 per cent of homes in 2021. Auchenflower is hilly too. In Taringa, Council's heritage register includes an interwar brick home in the Old English style on Morrow Street, a reminder that not every older home is timber.
The inner north has its own history. In Grange, Council records a large timber Queenslander at 79 Primrose Street, built around 1899. The heritage register also lists older homes in Wooloowin, Wilston, Kalinga, Clayfield and Hendra. On a hillside or highset home, we plan for:
- Stairs at both ends, at $48 including GST per flight where a stair charge applies, confirmed before booking.
- Steep or narrow driveways. If the truck can't use the driveway, we plan the carry and confirm the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge upfront.
- Dismantling for tight turns. Beds, tables and wardrobes come apart when that's the safer way through, and go back together at the new home.
- Pianos and heavy pieces. Piano relocation is $149 including GST, subject to an access assessment. Items over 90 kg are $48 including GST each.
Western suburbs: bigger homes and acreage
West along the river, homes and blocks get larger. Indooroopilly, 7.8 kilometres south-west of the CBD, mixes detached houses with medium-density apartments and has the largest shopping centre in Brisbane's western suburbs. St Lucia sits on a peninsula in a bend of the river. The University of Queensland's main campus takes up its eastern third, with denser housing to the north and mainly family homes in the centre and south.
Fig Tree Pocket occupies a river pocket on the northern bank, bounded by the river on three sides and home to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Further out, Pullenvale, 19.3 kilometres by road south-west of the CBD, is mostly rural residential land with rolling hills and bushland.
Larger properties mean larger inventories, so we ask about:
- Everything beyond the house: sheds, studios, garages, outdoor furniture and gym equipment, so the truck and crew are sized for the full load.
- Long driveways and loading distance, so we know how far each item travels from the door to the truck.
- Fragile collections: artwork, glassware and antiques, handled by our packing team, with bubble wrap and dish paper supplied on request.
- What isn't coming. A downsize is a good time for junk removal, so you're not paying to move things you'll throw out.

Crossing the river and getting across town
Northside moves often head south, and the river decides the route. The Eleanor Schonell Bridge between St Lucia and Dutton Park carries only buses, pedestrians and bicycles, so a truck takes the long way around. Between Indooroopilly and Chelmer, the heritage-listed Walter Taylor Bridge is the only road crossing. Council has scheduled overnight weekend closures there in 2026 for renewal works, so check its notices before booking an after-hours move.
Across the north, two tunnels shorten the drive. Legacy Way runs 4.6 kilometres from the Western Freeway at Toowong to the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove. Airport Link runs 6.7 kilometres from Bowen Hills to Toombul, with connections at Windsor and Kedron. For the Gold Coast, the Gateway Motorway, signed M1, crosses the river and meets the Pacific Motorway heading south.
Wherever you're going, travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee and confirmed before you book. Our Southside removalists page covers the other side of the river, and Gold Coast removalists covers moves down the M1.
Northside offices, shops and warehouses
The northside is also where plenty of Brisbane businesses trade. Racecourse Road, running through Hamilton and Ascot, has more than 130 businesses. Paddington's shops line its ridgetop roads. Around Brisbane Airport, including the former Eagle Farm Airport site, Australia TradeCoast brings together transport, logistics, aviation and manufacturing businesses.
Commercial moves are a priority for us, and we plan them around your trading hours:
- After-hours, weekend and public holiday moves, subject to availability, so the move happens outside trading time.
- Furniture placed to your floor plan, with desks and tables reassembled where they were taken apart.
- Stock and equipment sequenced for warehouse removals, with heavy items assessed individually.
IT disconnection and licensed trade work sit outside our service, so book your IT provider and trades early. Our office removals page explains the full process.

More northside suburbs we cover
The northside runs well beyond our inner-north suburb guides. Four more suburbs we cover, each with its own access questions:
- Chermside. About 9.8 kilometres north of the CBD by road, and home to Westfield Chermside, the second-largest Westfield centre in Australia. Flats and apartments made up 58.7 per cent of occupied homes at the 2021 Census, so check lift bookings and loading-dock times early.
- Nundah. The Nundah Village shopping strip sits on a ridge along Sandgate Road, and flats and apartments were 60.5 per cent of occupied homes in 2021. Near the village, plan truck parking early.
- Aspley. About 13 kilometres north of the CBD and mostly houses: 72.1 per cent of occupied homes in 2021, with townhouses and similar homes another 23.8 per cent. In a townhouse complex, check the body corporate rules on where a truck can stand.
- Fortitude Valley. Just 1.6 kilometres north-east of the CBD, where 96.4 per cent of occupied homes were flats or apartments in 2021. Book the goods lift with building management, and if your building backs onto the Brunswick Street or Chinatown pedestrian malls, ask where removal trucks load.
Not on this list? We cover the whole northside.
What a northside move costs
We charge by the hour and show the numbers before you book.
- $125 to $169 per hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers, with blankets, pads, dollies, trolleys, straps and wrap included.
- $48 incl. GST each, where they apply: appliances, items over 90 kg, stairs per flight, an extra pick-up or drop-off, an extra trip, a truck-inaccessible driveway and hoisting.
- Piano relocation: $149 incl. GST on top of the hourly rate, subject to access.
- Travel: depot-to-depot or a call-out fee, confirmed before booking. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
A deposit secures your date, and we ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Full details are on our pricing page, and our Brisbane removalists page covers the rest of the city. When you're ready, request a quote with both addresses, the stairs at each end and anything heavy or fragile. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours.
Before your northside move
- Count the stairs at both addresses and note any steep or narrow driveway.
- Measure the lift car, the tightest doorway and your largest sofa, table and wardrobe.
- Book goods lifts, loading docks and move times with building management.
- List sheds, outdoor furniture, gym equipment and anything over 90 kg.
- Crossing the river after hours? Check Council's notices for bridge closures first.
- Decide what isn't coming and book junk removal before moving day.
- Keep keys, documents, medication and valuables with you rather than on the truck.
