Auchenflower removals by the river

Most Auchenflower homes are apartments and units, set between the Brisbane River, Coronation Drive and Milton Road. A moving truck and two professional movers cost $125 to $169 an hour + GST, depending on the type of move and truck size, and we plan the building rules and the loading spot first.

Auchenflower and nearby

Auchenflower is on Brisbane’s northside. The lines link it to nearby suburbs we cover, Paddington, Taringa and St Lucia, and to the Brisbane CBD.

Auchenflower removalists between the river and Milton Road

Auchenflower is an inner riverside suburb about 3.5 kilometres west of the CBD on Milton Road. Coronation Drive runs along its river edge, Milton Road runs through its centre, and Auchenflower station sits on the Ipswich line, the second stop west of Roma Street.

It is also, mostly, a suburb of apartments. Over the years, many of its Queenslanders were replaced by units and apartments. In the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up 57.8 per cent of Auchenflower's occupied private dwellings, against 12.5 per cent across Queensland. Two-bedroom homes were the most common, at 42.9 per cent, and 46.3 per cent of homes were rented.

So most Auchenflower moves are shaped by the building, not the furniture. Lift bookings, loading areas, stairwells and where the truck can stand set the pace of the day, and we plan those first. The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.

Apartment moves, done to the building's rules

  • Lift bookings. Book the lift with building management for a set window, and ask whether lift padding is required. Give us the window so the crew arrives ready to start.
  • Basements and loading areas. Check the basement clearance before assuming a truck can use it. Tell us where the truck can stop and how far that is from the lift.
  • Walk-ups. If your block has stairs only, tell us how many flights there are at each end. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight, confirmed when you book.
  • Common areas. We wrap furniture in quilted blankets and stretch wrap before it leaves your unit. That protects lift walls and corridors as well as your furniture.

Our apartment removals cover every size of unit. A single room or a few pieces can be booked as a furniture removal.

Coronation Drive, Milton Road and where the truck stops

Coronation Drive is one of Brisbane's busiest roads. It is six lanes wide for most of its length, follows the river through Milton and Auchenflower, and carried an average of 75,560 vehicles a day in the second half of 2014. Milton Road carries the other main stream of traffic west. Neither is a place to improvise a loading stop.

The side streets take planning too. Council lists Auchenflower among the suburbs in Regulated Parking Permit Areas, where signs in individual streets set the rules and permit holders are exempt. The Wesley Hospital, with its main entry on Chasely Street, extends through to Auchenflower station, so nearby streets serve patients, visitors and commuters as well as residents.

  • Read the signs at both addresses and tell us what they say: time limits, loading zones and permit rules.
  • Arrange any permit or loading zone early if your building or street needs one. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
  • Think about the clock. Peak traffic on Coronation Drive and Milton Road adds travel time, which is charged by the hour. A mid-morning start often makes sense.

Office moves along Coronation Drive

Auchenflower isn't only residential. Commercial high-rise and office park developments have spread down Coronation Drive from Milton over recent decades. Office and commercial moves are a priority for us, and they need the same planning as an apartment: a dock booking, a lift and a deadline.

  • After-hours and weekend moves, subject to availability, so your team loses less working time.
  • Desks, files and equipment wrapped, labelled and placed to your floor plan at the new office.
  • What we don't do: IT and network setup, or licensed electrical and plumbing work. Book those trades for the new premises in advance.

See our office removals service for how we plan a commercial move.

Lease ends, storage and short moves

With nearly half of Auchenflower's homes rented, plenty of local moves run to a lease date.

  • Lock in the date early. A deposit secures your booking. We ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule, and later cancellations incur a cancellation fee.
  • Two handovers on one day? If your old lease ends the day your new one starts, give us both handover times so we can plan the order.
  • Storage in between. If the dates don't line up, we can deliver to or collect from a storage facility. See storage transfers.
  • Leave nothing behind. Unwanted furniture and boxes can go with our junk removal service, charged on time plus disposal by weight, with a disposal minimum of $95 including GST.

Short moves count too. Auchenflower to Paddington, Taringa or St Lucia covers only a few kilometres, but stairs, lifts and parking at both ends still decide how long the job takes.

Riverside streets and flood history

Auchenflower's river frontage brings views and history. The major floods of 1893 and 1974 tested the choice of house sites here. In January 2011, despite upstream flood mitigation, floodwater again reached the old stream-bed tributaries of the river, and Moorlands Park and nearby land went under. Moorlands itself, a heritage-listed house now in the grounds of the Wesley Hospital, stands on a hill above the Toowong Reach.

If you're moving into a lower-lying street, spend a few minutes with Council's Flood Awareness Map before you decide what goes into a ground-floor storage cage, a garage or under the house. It shows possible flood extents and historic flood events for any Brisbane address. Higher-value pieces can then go where they're safest, and we'll place them there on the day.

Moving to or from Auchenflower, and the cost

Coronation Drive begins at the northern end of the Riverside Expressway, an elevated section of the Pacific Motorway that continues south to the Gold Coast. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions. For moves further afield, see interstate removals.

  • $125 to $169 per hour + GST for a truck and two professional movers, with blankets, pads, dollies, straps and wrap included.
  • $48 incl. GST each, where they apply: stair flights, appliances, items over 90 kg, hoisting, an extra pick-up or drop-off, an extra trip or a truck-inaccessible driveway.
  • Pianos: $149 incl. GST on top of the hourly rate, subject to access.
  • Travel: depot-to-depot or a call-out fee, confirmed before you book. Parking and permit costs are passed on, and waiting time is chargeable.

Full details are on our pricing page. When you're ready, request a quote with the building names, floor numbers and lift windows at both ends. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours.

Before your Auchenflower move

  • Book the lift and loading area at both buildings and confirm permitted move times.
  • Check the basement clearance and tell us where a truck can stop.
  • Read the parking signs outside both addresses and note any permit rules.
  • Count the stair flights at each end if either building is a walk-up.
  • Give us both handover times if your lease end and start fall on the same day.
  • For an office, book IT and electrical trades for the new premises separately.

Questions

Good to know.

How much do removalists in Auchenflower cost?

A moving truck and two professional movers cost $125 to $169 per hour + GST, depending on the type of move and truck size, with blankets, pads, dollies, straps and wrap included. Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee and confirmed before you book. Extras such as stair flights or appliances are $48 including GST each where they apply.

Can you move me out of a unit with no lift?

Yes. Tell us how many flights there are at each end. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight, confirmed when you book. Stairs also affect crew size and timing, so we ask about them first.

Who books the lift and the loading dock?

You arrange lift bookings, loading zones and building access with building management, and let us know the times. We plan the crew around your window and follow the building's rules on the day.

Where will the truck park?

Somewhere legal and as close to your entry as possible, usually off the main roads. Auchenflower is in a Regulated Parking Permit Area, so read the signs outside both addresses and tell us what they say. Any parking or permit costs are passed on.

Do you handle office moves in Auchenflower and Milton?

Yes. Office and commercial moves are a priority for us, and we can move after hours or on weekends, subject to availability. IT and network setup and licensed trade work aren't included.

My lease ends before my new place is ready. Can you help?

Yes. We can take your belongings to a storage facility and deliver them later. An additional pick-up or drop-off is $48 including GST per location, and we include it in the quote from the start.
