West End removalists for inner-city living
West End is 2.9 kilometres south-west of the CBD by road, on the river peninsula it shares with South Brisbane and Highgate Hill. It has changed fast. Montague Road was long the suburb's industrial backbone, and riverside factory sites have been redeveloped as apartments. In 2012, a revised neighbourhood plan proposed buildings of up to 12 storeys on large sites between Montague Road and the river.
The 2021 Census shows the result. Of West End's occupied private dwellings, 75.7 per cent were flats or apartments, 67.5 per cent had one or two bedrooms and 58.1 per cent were rented.
That shapes the job. A West End move is usually smaller in volume than a suburban house, but it can be slow if the building isn't ready for it. The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers, so a lift that's booked and a loading spot that's arranged save you real money.

Lifts, loading docks and booking windows
On an apartment move, most of the time is spent between the truck and your door. Before moving day:
- Book the lift and loading area with building management at both ends, and ask about permitted move hours and lift protection.
- Check clearances. Basement and loading-dock heights don't always suit a removalist truck. Tell us the clearance if the building lists it.
- Measure the big pieces against the lift door, the lift car and the corridor turns. A sofa that fitted one building's lift may not fit the next.
- Count the stairs in a walk-up. Apartment stairs are $48 including GST per flight, confirmed when you book.
Our apartment removals follow each building's rules. If there's a second stop, such as a storage cage or a partner's place, add it to your quote request: each additional pick-up or drop-off is $48 including GST.
Workers' cottages and character houses
Not all of West End is high-rise. Brisbane City Council's heritage register includes 227 Boundary Street, a small timber-and-tin house built around 1879 for labourer Charles West on a 13-perch block of about 330 square metres. Council notes that workers' housing in West End was traditionally in the lower parts of the suburb, while this one sits on a ridge.
Small lots and older houses bring their own access questions:
- Narrow side paths and front steps. Tell us how the house is entered and whether the truck can stop out the front.
- Tight internal turns. We dismantle beds, tables and desks when that's the safer way through, and rebuild them at the other end.
- Heavy and fragile pieces. Pianos, safes and stone-topped furniture are assessed first. Piano relocation is $149 including GST on top of the hourly rate, subject to access.
If you're moving from a cottage into an apartment, our storage transfers can take the pieces that won't fit.

Parking, permits and market Saturdays
Street parking in West End is in demand, and Council manages it. West End is one of the suburbs where residents of Council's regulated parking permit areas can get a resident permit, and those areas exist to manage street parking where demand is high.
Boundary Street is the heart of the café and shopping strip. Every Saturday the West End Markets fill Davies Park, on Montague Road and Jane Street, from 6am to 2pm between March and November and 6am to 1pm from December to February.
- Pick your day. If you live near Davies Park, a weekday or a Saturday afternoon avoids the market crowds.
- Arrange the truck's spot. Customers organise loading zones and parking permits, and any parking or permit costs are passed on.
- Use the quieter hours. After-hours and weekend moves are available, subject to availability.
Tell us where the truck can legally stop and how far that is from your entry. It's one of the biggest factors in how long a West End move takes.
Office and studio moves in West End
West End mixes homes with cafés, studios, shops and offices, from Boundary Street to Montague Road. Our office removals are planned for businesses that can't stop for long:
- After-hours and weekend moves, subject to availability, to keep disruption to trading hours down.
- Labelled by destination. Desks, chairs, filing and boxed equipment are tagged by workstation or room at the new site.
- Access sorted first. You arrange loading docks, lifts and access cards with each building, and we plan the move around them.
- A clear scope. We move and reassemble basic office furniture. IT and network setup, and licensed electrical or plumbing work, stay with your own contractors.
Furniture you won't need at the new site? Our junk removal service takes office furniture and equipment, with disposal charged by weight and type.

Moving to or from West End
- Next door. A move to Highgate Hill is short on the map, but it often goes from flat streets to steep ones.
- Across the river. The Go Between Bridge, a toll bridge, links West End with Hale Street and the Inner City Bypass at Milton, near Auchenflower. St Lucia faces West End across the river to the south-west.
- The Gold Coast and interstate. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, and handle interstate removals.
Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee, and we confirm it before you book.
