South Brisbane removalists who start with the street
The Brisbane River divides the city into the northside and the southside, and the south has as much variety as anywhere in Brisbane. There are riverside Queenslanders in Bulimba and Hawthorne, hillside homes in Camp Hill and Seven Hills, apartment towers in Highgate Hill and West End, river-bend houses in Chelmer and Graceville, and acreage in Chandler and Gumdale.
As local removalists, Brisbane Moving Company is based in Slacks Creek, south of the river and about 22 kilometres south-south-east of the CBD in a straight line. We move homes, apartments, offices and warehouses right across the southside, and every quote starts with the property: the stairs, the parking, the turns and the pieces that need extra care.
The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck, two professional movers and all standard equipment. Additional movers and larger trucks are available for bigger homes and commercial jobs, with charges confirmed before you book.
Bulimba, Hawthorne and the riverside east
Bulimba sits on the southern bank of the river, about 4 kilometres north-east of the CBD, and is known for its leafy streets, traditional Queenslanders and the dining and retail precinct on Oxford Street. Its neighbour Hawthorne shares the character architecture and the tree-lined streets, without a major arterial road running through it. Inland, the homes get older still. Council's heritage register records Lozelles in Norman Park, a timber Queenslander built in 1888, and a timber cottage from around 1890 on Riding Road in Balmoral.
Moving out of a character home here usually means planning for:
- Front stairs and verandahs. We check the turn from the stairs into the hallway and wrap heavy pieces in quilted blankets before they're carried. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight.
- Parking on leafy residential streets. Tell us where the truck can park and how far that is from the front door. If the truck can't use the driveway, the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge is confirmed before you book.
- Kerb space near Oxford Street. A busy dining and shopping strip means competition for parking, so organise any loading zone or permit early. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
- Fine furniture. Antiques, artwork and mirrors can be packed by our packing team. Piano relocation is $149 including GST, subject to an access assessment.

Hills and acreage to the east
East of the river suburbs, the ground rises. Camp Hill's high points include Whites Hill, 112 metres above sea level, and Old Cleveland Road, its main road, is a major route towards the city and Carindale. Seven Hills is named for its seven hills, with streets named after the hills of Rome, and has a 52-hectare bushland reserve on its north-eastern side.
Further out, the blocks get bigger. Chandler, 16.4 kilometres south-east of the CBD by road, is a semi-rural suburb of bushland and acreage properties, with Tingalpa Creek on its eastern border separating Brisbane from Redland City. In Gumdale, the average property is roughly 5,000 to 10,000 square metres.
On hillside and acreage moves, we plan for:
- Sloping blocks and steep driveways, including where the truck can stand safely and how far each item is carried.
- Sheds, garages and outdoor living: outdoor furniture, tools, gym equipment and garden pieces, built into the load from the start.
- Items over 90 kg, such as safes or stone-topped tables, at $48 including GST each and assessed before moving day.
- A clear-out first. Junk removal takes the furniture, appliances and clutter you don't want, with disposal charged by weight and type.
Moving further east? We cover Redlands too.
West End and Highgate Hill: towers and cottages
The inner south has changed quickly. West End, 2.9 kilometres south-west of the CBD and bounded by the river to the west and south, grew from 8,061 residents in 2011 to 14,730 in 2021. Next door, Highgate Hill rises to 64 metres, and its high-density housing centres on Dornoch Terrace, where a number of apartment buildings stand more than 10 storeys tall. Older homes remain among the new: Council records 227 Boundary Street in West End as a modest timber workers' dwelling from around 1879.
Moves in the inner south come down to access:
- Lifts and docks. Book the goods lift, loading dock and move time with building management at both ends.
- Loading on the street. Brisbane City Council lets a commercial vehicle that is loading or unloading goods use a commercial loading zone for up to 20 minutes without a permit. That won't cover most moves, so plan a dock, a driveway or a permit.
- Market day. Davies Park hosts one of Greater Brisbane's largest farmers' markets every Saturday. If you live nearby, a weekday move keeps the truck clear of market traffic.
- Walk-ups and cottages. Tell us the number of flights at each address, so the crew and timing match the real job.
Our apartment removals follow each building's rules. Our guide to moving to an apartment covers lift bookings and measuring the route. Heading to St Lucia? The nearby Eleanor Schonell Bridge from Dutton Park carries only buses, pedestrians and bicycles, so the truck goes around.

Chelmer and Graceville: homes on the river bends
Upstream, the river wraps around the south-western suburbs. Chelmer, 9.8 kilometres south-west of the CBD, is bounded by the river on every side except the south. It is mostly low-density housing, from traditional Queenslanders to contemporary brick homes, and its Laurel Avenue, lined with heritage-listed camphor laurels, was voted Brisbane's Best Street in 1999. Graceville, next door, is mainly residential, with houses generally in the Queenslander style, and is bordered by the river and Oxley Creek.
In a highset Queenslander, the space under the house can hold as much as a spare room, so we ask about that level as well as the rooms above. Pianos, heirloom furniture and outdoor pieces are listed separately so each gets its own plan, and beds and tables are dismantled where the stairs demand it.
Crossing to the northside? Between Chelmer and Indooroopilly, the heritage-listed Walter Taylor Bridge is the only road crossing; the other bridges carry trains, pedestrians and cyclists. Council has scheduled overnight weekend closures there in 2026 for renewal works, so check its notices before an after-hours move. Our Northside removalists page covers the other side of the river.
Southside businesses and moves further afield
Commercial moves are a priority for us, and the southside has plenty: shopfronts and studios along strips such as Oxford Street and Boundary Street, offices across the inner south, and industrial land further out. Acacia Ridge, about 15 kilometres south of the CBD, has a heavy industrial area east of Beaudesert Road and one of Queensland's largest railway freight yards.
- After-hours, weekend and public holiday moves, subject to availability, to protect your trading time.
- Office removals placed to your floor plan, with desks and tables reassembled.
- Warehouse removals with stock and equipment sequenced and heavy items assessed individually.
The southside is also where the road south begins. The Pacific Motorway runs from the CBD through the southern suburbs and Logan to the Gold Coast, signed M3 as far as Eight Mile Plains and M1 beyond. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, and across Logan and Ipswich.

More southside suburbs we cover
The southside doesn't stop at the river suburbs. Three more we cover, each with its own planning points:
- Sunnybank. Known for its Asian shops and restaurants, Sunnybank sits about 10 kilometres in a straight line north-west of Slacks Creek, where we're based. Separate houses made up 85.8 per cent of occupied homes at the 2021 Census, so plan for a full-house load, garage and outdoor furniture included.
- Annerley. About 6.2 kilometres south of the CBD by road, on Ipswich Road, one of Brisbane's main southerly traffic arteries. In 2021 its homes split almost evenly between houses (40.9 per cent) and flats or apartments (40.8 per cent), so tell us whether you're carrying down front stairs or a walk-up's flights and, if you're on or just off Ipswich Road, where the truck can stand.
- Wynnum. On the shores of Moreton Bay, about 19.6 kilometres by road east of the CBD. Seven in ten occupied homes were separate houses in 2021. We cover Redlands, further around the bay, as well.
Furniture removals and small moves on the southside
Not every move is a whole house. As furniture removalists on Brisbane's southside, we handle single items and small loads too: a sofa bought from a seller in Sunnybank, a desk for an Annerley apartment, a bed for a student in Highgate Hill or a dining setting heading to a family member across the river.
Small moves get the same care as big ones. Every piece is wrapped in quilted blankets and stretch wrap, strapped in the truck and carried on trolleys where it can be, and that equipment is included in the hourly rate. Beds, tables and similar furniture are dismantled and reassembled where the stairs or doorways demand it, with the tools included.
A few things change the price of a small job, so tell us about them when you request a quote:
- Appliances, such as a fridge or washing machine: $48 including GST per item
- Items over 90 kg, such as a safe or a stone-topped table: $48 including GST per item, assessed beforehand
- Collecting from more than one address, for example a marketplace seller and a store: $48 including GST per additional pick-up or drop-off
- Stairs at either end: $48 including GST per flight
Small moves are charged at the same hourly rate as any other, from $125 per hour + GST for a truck and two movers, with travel confirmed before booking. Because we're based in Slacks Creek, south of the river, southside jobs start close to home.
What a southside move costs
We charge by the hour and show the numbers before you book.
- $125 to $169 per hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers, with blankets, pads, dollies, trolleys, straps and wrap included.
- $48 incl. GST each, where they apply: appliances, items over 90 kg, stairs per flight, an extra pick-up or drop-off, an extra trip, a truck-inaccessible driveway and hoisting.
- Piano relocation: $149 incl. GST on top of the hourly rate, subject to access.
- Travel: depot-to-depot or a call-out fee, confirmed before booking. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
A deposit secures your date, and we ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. See our pricing page for the full breakdown, our guide to comparing removalist quotes for what to check in any quote, and our Brisbane removalists page for the rest of the city. When you're ready, request a quote with both addresses, the stairs at each end and anything heavy or fragile. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours.
Before your southside move
- Count the front stairs and measure the verandah turn, hallway and main doorways.
- Check the space under a highset house and list what's stored there.
- Book goods lifts, loading docks and move times with building management at both ends.
- Near Oxford Street, Boundary Street or Davies Park? Plan the truck's parking early.
- On acreage, list sheds, outdoor furniture, gym equipment and anything over 90 kg.
- Leave gas bottles, chemicals and flammables out of the load. They can't travel on the truck.
- Keep keys, documents, medication and valuables with you rather than on the truck.
