Removalists for Teneriffe's woolstore streets
Teneriffe is a small riverside suburb about 2.5 kilometres north-east of the CBD, between New Farm, Newstead and Fortitude Valley. In the early 20th century, around sixteen woolstores were built along the river here. A Brisbane City Council urban renewal programme in the 1990s saw most of them converted to apartments, and the suburb changed from a riverside industrial hub to a mostly high-density residential area.
The 2021 Census puts numbers on it. Flats and apartments made up 88.4 per cent of Teneriffe's occupied private dwellings, against 12.5 per cent across Queensland. Separate houses were just 10.0 per cent, and many of the older homes that remain stand on Teneriffe Hill, in the middle of the suburb.
So a Teneriffe move is usually an apartment move in a building with a past. We plan around the building's rules, entries and lifts first, then the furniture. The rate is simple: $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.
Moving in or out of a converted woolstore
The woolstores were built to hold wool bales, not households. Mactaggarts Woolstore on Vernon Terrace, for example, is a three-storey brick building from 1926. It was entered on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992 and converted to apartments in 1995. Other heritage-listed stores line Macquarie Street and Vernon Terrace, and no two conversions are the same. Never assume a woolstore apartment has a goods lift or a loading bay.
- Get the rules in writing. Ask building management which entrance and lift movers must use, the permitted hours and any booking or bond the building requires.
- Protect the common areas. Heritage buildings may keep original features in their foyers and corridors. Ask what protection the building expects, and tell us before the day.
- Find the truck a spot. Tell us whether there's a loading area or the truck must stand on the street, and how far that is from the lift.
- Confirm access the day before. Waiting time is chargeable, so check the lift booking and any fobs before the crew arrives.
Our apartment removals follow each building's requirements, whatever its age.

Big rooms, big furniture
Large living spaces tend to collect large furniture: modular sofas, long dining tables, oversized art and stone-topped pieces. They suit the room. The real question is whether they fit the lift and the corridor.
- Measure the route. Lift car, lift door, corridor corners and the apartment door. Compare them with your three largest pieces well before moving day.
- Break it down. Modular sofas separate, table legs come off and bed frames dismantle. Basic dismantling and reassembly are included.
- Pack the fragile things properly. Our packing team handles glassware, ceramics, mirrors and framed art, with bubble wrap and dish paper on request at no extra charge.
- Weigh the heavy ones. Marble tables, safes and solid timber pieces over 90 kg are $48 including GST each, and we assess them first.
If a piece needs handling beyond what our crew and equipment can do safely, we'll tell you plainly before the move.
Homes on Teneriffe Hill
Teneriffe Hill rises to 45 metres in the centre of the suburb. In the 19th century its top was a wealthy "dress circle", and Brisbane City Council's heritage records note that by the 1950s and 1960s many of its villas had been converted to flats and hostels. Council's record for 46 Kingsholme Street describes a high-set timber house from the late 1880s, on a sloping block elevated above the road.
Moving on the hill is a stairs-and-slope job:
- Front stairs. A high-set house on a raised block can mean a full flight before the front door. Where a stair charge applies, it's $48 including GST per flight.
- Converted villas. Older homes split into flats may share a stairway or entry. Tell us which door is yours and how the stairs run.
- The driveway. If the truck can't use it, the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge applies, and we plan a safe carry from the street.
Our house moving service brings quilted blankets, pads, dollies and straps at no extra cost.

Streets, kerb space and timing
Macquarie Street and Vernon Terrace hold the big heritage stores, with Commercial Road, Florence Street and Skyring Terrace among the main streets nearby. The Teneriffe ferry wharf has CityCat and Cross River services, which is handy for you, but the truck still needs somewhere to stand.
- Kerb space is shared. In a suburb this dense, a spot near a building entry can be hard to find. If your street needs a permit or loading zone, arrange it early. Costs are passed on.
- Start early. A morning start gives the most room inside a building's permitted move hours.
- Weekends and after hours. Available subject to availability, if your building allows moves then.
Moving to or from Teneriffe
- Next door. New Farm is just south. A move between the two is likely to be apartment to apartment, with two sets of building rules.
- Along the river. Hamilton's Northshore and Portside apartments are a short run downstream.
- Into the city. The CBD is about 2.5 kilometres away, so drive time is small and the building at the other end shapes the day.
- Further away. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, and offer interstate removals and packing for overseas moves.
At the new place, our unpacking service puts cartons in the right rooms, reassembles furniture and removes the used packing. Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee and confirmed before you book.

What a Teneriffe move costs
The hourly rate is the core of every quote. The extras depend on the building, and we list them up front.
- $125 to $169 per hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.
- Equipment included: quilted blankets, furniture pads, dollies, hand trolleys, ratchet straps and large stretch wrap, plus bubble wrap and dish paper on request.
- $48 incl. GST each, where they apply: appliances, items over 90 kg, stairs per flight, extra pick-ups or drop-offs, an extra trip, a truck-inaccessible driveway and hoisting.
- Piano relocation: $149 incl. GST, subject to an access assessment.
- Parking and waiting: parking and permit costs are passed on, and waiting time is chargeable.
A deposit secures your date, and we ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. See the pricing page for detail, then request a quote with your building's move rules, lift details and a list of large pieces. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours.
