Gumdale removalists for the whole household
Gumdale began as the Grassdale Estate, auctioned in 1885 and named for the grass trees that grew in the district. The name changed to Gumdale in the early 1940s to avoid confusion with Grassdale in South Australia. Queensland Places describes it as a rural-residential suburb that has become increasingly urbanised since the early 2000s, so acreage and newer streets sit side by side.
The 2021 Census shows what that means for a removalist. Of Gumdale's occupied private dwellings, 99.5 per cent were separate houses and 85.5 per cent had four or more bedrooms. Households averaged 3.4 people. A typical Gumdale move is a full family home: bedrooms, a kitchen, living areas, the garage and the yard.
We price it plainly: $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers. For bigger homes we can add movers or a larger truck, and we confirm those charges before you book.

School zones and the school run
Gumdale State School, at 677 New Cleveland Road, is a large primary school, with 893 students enrolled in 2017. The school's own transport guidance notes signed 40 km/h school zones on New Cleveland, Tilley and Formosa roads, and Stop, Drop and Go areas in the Tilley Road car park and at the Formosa Road gate.
If your home is on one of those roads, or your route passes the school:
- Load outside the school peaks. We plan the start time and loading window around drop-off and pick-up where we can.
- Keep out of pick-up areas. School drop-off zones aren't loading space for a removalist truck. We'll agree a legal spot near your driveway instead.
- Check the signs. Photograph any parking restrictions near your address so we can plan around them.
- Plan the children's day. A school-day move keeps younger children clear of the crew. A weekend or holiday move makes it easier to set up their rooms together.
A packing plan for a big household
Packing a four-bedroom home is a project in itself. Our packing team can do all of it, or only the rooms that take the longest.
- Kitchen and fragile items first. Glassware, crockery and ornaments are wrapped with dish paper and bubble wrap, supplied on request at no extra charge.
- Wardrobes and linen. Clothes, bedding and towels go into cartons labelled by bedroom.
- Children's rooms last out, first in. Pack them last, label them clearly and they become the first rooms we set up at the new address.
- An essentials bag for each person. Chargers, school things, medication and a change of clothes travel with you, not on the truck.
Every carton gets a room name. It sounds simple, but it decides how quickly the crew can place everything at the other end.

Driveways, the yard and the garage
Acreage blocks and newer estates bring different access, and Gumdale has both.
- Long or sloping driveways. Send a photo from the street. If the truck can't use the driveway, we plan the carry and confirm the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge first.
- Outdoor furniture and play equipment. Trampolines, cubby houses and swing sets usually need taking apart. Tell us what's in the yard so we can assess it.
- Garage and storage. Bikes, tools, sporting gear and shelving add up quickly. Count them in your inventory.
- Appliances. Fridges, washing machines and dryers are $48 including GST each. Empty and defrost the fridge the day before.
If some of it isn't coming with you, our junk removal service can take furniture, mattresses, whitegoods and clutter, with disposal charged by weight and type from $95 including GST.
Unpacking at the new home
A family move isn't finished when the truck is empty. Our unpacking service can:
- place cartons in the right rooms, using the labels from packing day
- unpack boxes, starting with the kitchen or the children's rooms
- reassemble beds, tables and other basic furniture
- take away empty cartons and used packing
Basic dismantling and reassembly is already part of every move. Licensed trade work, such as connecting a plumbed fridge or hard-wiring an appliance, is not, so book a licensed plumber or electrician for those jobs.

Moving to or from Gumdale
Gumdale borders Wakerley, Ransome, Chandler and Belmont, and its main roads make most destinations straightforward.
- Local roads. New Cleveland Road links Tingalpa with Capalaba, and Tilley Road runs south to Old Cleveland Road at Chandler.
- The Redlands. New Cleveland Road continues to Capalaba for moves into the Redlands.
- The Gold Coast. Old Cleveland Road has an interchange with the Gateway Motorway, which joins the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Eight Mile Plains. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions.
- Storage in between. If settlement dates don't line up, our storage transfers move furniture in and out of storage.
Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee, and we confirm it before you book. For more of the area, see our Brisbane southside removalists page.
