Furniture removalists in Brisbane for the moves in between
Not every move involves a whole household. Plenty of jobs are much smaller: a sofa bought from a seller across town, a dining table passed down from a family home, a bed and desk for a first share house, or a few rooms of furniture for someone moving in with a partner. These moves still deserve a proper truck, a professional crew and furniture that arrives without new scratches.
Our furniture removals service in Brisbane is set up for single items and small loads. There is no fixed item limit. We match the truck and crew to what you are actually moving and the access at both ends, whether that is one armchair or the contents of a small unit.
We are based in Slacks Creek and handle small moves across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay, including between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions. A student furnishing a room near the University of Queensland in St Lucia, a couple combining two apartments in New Farm, a downsizer taking a few treasured pieces from a family home in Chelmer: each is a small move, and each gets planned properly.

The small moves we handle
Single items
One sofa, one wardrobe, one fridge, one antique. Single-item moves are available, subject to a safe assessment of the item and the access. Appliances carry an extra $48 including GST per item on top of moving time; we move and place them, and anything plumbed in or hard-wired must be connected by a licensed trade. Pianos have their own service and charge, explained on our piano removals page.
Small loads
A room or two, a studio apartment, or the pieces you are keeping after a downsize. For a full apartment or unit, see apartment removals.
Multi-stop runs
Collect a bed from one address and a dresser from another, then deliver both to your home in one booking. Each additional pick-up or drop-off location is $48 including GST. That is often better value than separate bookings, because travel applies to each booking.
Storage collections and deliveries
Pieces going into or coming out of a storage unit are a common small move. Our storage transfers page covers facility access and timing.
Heavy pieces
Items over 90kg, such as solid timber wardrobes or stone-topped tables, are assessed individually and carry a $48 including GST per-item charge. Our heavy items page explains what we need to know.
How we protect furniture on a small move
A single piece of furniture travelling in a truck needs the same protection as a full load, arguably more, because there is nothing packed around it. Every move includes our standard protective equipment at no extra charge:
- Quilted moving blankets and furniture pads over every exposed surface
- Large stretch wrap to hold blankets in place and keep upholstery clean
- Flat dollies and hand trolleys, so heavy pieces are wheeled rather than dragged
- Ratchet straps to secure each item in the truck so it cannot shift in transit
- Tools for basic dismantling and reassembly
Where a piece is designed to come apart, we take it apart. Bed frames, table legs, glass shelves and dresser mirrors travel more safely separated and individually wrapped. Glass or stone tabletops that lift off are carried and transported separately, standing upright, rather than left resting on a base.
Tell us about anything fragile, antique or previously repaired before we lift it. A known weak joint, a loose veneer or a delicate finish changes how a piece is handled, and we would rather know at the start.

Will it fit? Measure before moving day
Before moving day, check that each piece will fit the route, not just the room. Sofas that went in years ago, before a renovation or a new door, do not always come back out the same way. New furniture that looked right in a showroom can meet a tight stair turn on the way in. Five minutes with a tape measure saves a lot of trouble.
Measure the item
Record height, width and depth. For sofas and armchairs, also measure the diagonal depth, from the top of the back to the front edge of the seat. That is often the dimension that decides whether a sofa will pass through a doorway on its side.
Measure the route
Doorways, hallways and the turns between them, stair widths and landings, gate openings and, in apartment buildings, the internal dimensions of the lift. Check both addresses, and send photos of anything tight.
If it will not fit
Many pieces can be dismantled: legs removed, bed frames separated, tabletops lifted off. Basic dismantling and reassembly are included, with the tools at no extra charge. Where a piece cannot go through the building at all, hoisting may be possible. It is assessed per item, charged at $48 including GST, and only carried out where it can be done safely. Not every item can be moved through every building, which is why we ask for dimensions and photos first.
Brisbane homes and small-move access
Brisbane's housing adds its own access questions. Queenslanders are high-set timber homes, so the main living areas usually sit at the top of a flight of front stairs. A buffet or wardrobe heading up to the verandah takes more planning than one moving across a single-level, slab-on-ground home. Many Queenslanders have also been renovated with built-in rooms underneath, which can mean a second set of stairs or a side path.
Inner-city apartments bring a different set of questions: goods lifts, loading docks and building rules about when furniture can be moved. As the resident, you arrange lift bookings, loading zones, parking permits and building access. We tell you which truck we are sending and how long we expect to need.
Mention anything that changes the job when you request a quote: stairs, a long carry from the kerb, a steep driveway the truck cannot use, or a seller's apartment with no lift. Known access issues are built into the plan and the quote, rather than discovered on the day.

Collecting from a seller, shop or family home
Small moves often start somewhere other than your home. A few details avoid wasted trips:
- Confirm the item is ready. Paid for, released for collection and, for retailers, booked for pick-up at an agreed time.
- Share a contact. Give us the name and phone number of the person at the pick-up address.
- Check their access too. Stairs, lifts and parking at the seller's address matter as much as at yours.
- Inspect before loading. For second-hand pieces, check the condition with the seller before we wrap it, so you know exactly what you have bought.
If an item is not ready, or access is not available when we arrive, waiting time is chargeable. A quick message to the seller the day before is well worth it.
Collecting furniture from a family home, perhaps after a parent has downsized, is a gentler kind of job. Tell us which pieces are going where, label them with the destination, and we will take care of the rest at a pace that suits the day.
Small-move pricing, explained
Small moves are charged on the same basis as larger ones: by the hour. Our hourly rates are $125 to $169 per hour + GST, depending on the type of move and truck size, for a moving truck, two professional movers and all standard equipment. Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee, depending on the job and location.
Some items and access conditions carry an extra $48 including GST each:
- Appliances, per item
- Heavy items over 90kg, per item
- Apartment stairs, per flight
- Each additional pick-up or drop-off location
- Each extra trip between loading and unloading
- A driveway the truck cannot access
- Hoisting, per item
Parking or permit costs are passed on where they apply. On a small job, travel makes up a bigger share of the total, so grouping several items into one booking is usually better value than moving them one at a time. Every charge, including any minimum, is confirmed before you book, and a deposit secures your date. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.
When you request a quote, include the items with dimensions and photos, both addresses with floor levels, access details and your preferred date. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours (8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday).
Small move checklist: before we arrive
- Measure each item, including the diagonal depth of sofas, and every doorway, stairwell and lift it must pass through.
- Photograph the items and the access at both addresses, including stairs, gates and where the truck can park.
- Empty drawers, cupboards and shelves, and remove loose glass shelves and ornaments.
- Empty, clean and defrost fridges and freezers, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Confirm pick-up details with the seller or shop: paid, released, contact name and a set time.
- Arrange lift bookings, parking or a loading zone at both ends.
- Point out anything fragile, antique or previously repaired before it is lifted.
