Removalists in Bulimba start with the building
Bulimba sits on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, about 4 kilometres north-east of the CBD in a straight line but around 9 kilometres by road. There is no bridge to the north side. CityCats stop at the Oxford Street and Apollo Road terminals, and a cross-river ferry runs from Oxford Street to Teneriffe. A removalist truck, though, comes and goes by road.
The homes vary as much as the access. In the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up 39.5 per cent of Bulimba's occupied private dwellings, townhouses and semi-detached homes 14.7 per cent, and separate houses 45.7 per cent. Across Queensland, apartments were just 12.5 per cent. More than a third of Bulimba homes (36.8 per cent) were rented, so lease-end moves with fixed key-return times are part of the local picture.
That's why a Bulimba quote starts with the building, not the postcode: lift or stairs, basement or street, the distance from the truck to your door, and the time you need to be out. The rate is simple. $125 to $169 an hour + GST covers a moving truck, two professional movers and all standard equipment.

Apartments, townhouses and the Barracks precinct
Bulimba keeps adding homes with house rules attached. Industrial land around Pashen Creek turned residential from the late 1990s, with townhouse developments replacing old industrial sites in the early 2000s. Now the old Bulimba Barracks on Apollo Road is becoming housing. In September 2025, Brisbane City Council approved the Apollo Road Apartments: 69 one-, two- and three-bedroom homes in two- and three-storey buildings, part of the first stage of a 21-hectare riverside precinct. The masterplan allows further homes of two to five storeys.
- Book the building first. Lifts, loading bays, permitted move times and lift protection are arranged with building management or the body corporate. That booking is yours to make, and we work to it.
- New buildings, new procedures. If you're among the first residents, ask the building manager how move-ins work and where a truck can stop.
- Townhouse complexes. Internal driveways, visitor bays and tight garage turns decide where the truck stands and how far we carry. Mention them when you book.
- Walk-ups. Apartment stairs are $48 including GST per flight, confirmed before you book.
Our apartment removals are planned around those rules, whether it's a one-bedroom unit or a three-level townhouse.
Timber Queenslanders on sloping blocks
Bulimba's older houses have their own quirks. Council's heritage record for 90 Bulimba Street describes a timber Queenslander from about 1895 that is lowset at the front and elevated at the rear, because the block slopes. In the late 1940s it was converted into flats and part of the verandah was enclosed. One house isn't the whole suburb, but the lesson travels: a few steps at the front, a full flight at the back, and a layout that may have changed more than once.
Council's neighbourhood plan for the district aims to keep pre-1911 houses and houses built in 1946 or before, along with mature plantings. Old timber homes and big street trees are part of many Bulimba moves, and we plan for both.
- We work from the house as it is today. Send current photos of the entry, any enclosed verandah or sleep-out, and the rear stairs. An old floor plan won't show the turns we need to make.
- Big pieces come apart when that's safer. Basic dismantling and reassembly is included, so beds and tables go back together at the new place.
- Floors and frames are protected. Quilted blankets, pads and stretch wrap go on before anything travels down a narrow hall.
- Heavy items are flagged early. Items over 90 kg are $48 including GST each, and piano relocation is $149 including GST, subject to an access assessment.

Oxford Street, loading zones and side streets
Oxford Street runs from the ferry terminal through Bulimba's dining and shopping strip, and Council intends to keep it that way. Its neighbourhood plan treats the street as a pedestrian spine, limits new driveways onto Oxford Street and sends servicing to side streets where possible. A removalist truck needs the same thinking.
- Loading zones are short. Council's loading zone data shows Oxford Street's commercial loading zones signed for a 20-minute maximum, many of them from 8am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 8am to noon on Saturdays. That's enough for a quick drop, not for loading a home.
- Driveways and corners are off-limits. Council's rules don't allow parking across driveways or footpaths, or within 10 metres of an intersection without traffic lights, unless signs say otherwise.
- Plan a side-street position. If you live on or just off Oxford Street, tell us where the truck could stand and how far that is from your door. If a permit or paid parking is needed, you arrange it and the cost is passed on.
- Pick a quieter hour. Weekend, after-hours and public holiday moves are available, subject to availability.
If the truck can't use your driveway at all, there's a $48 (incl. GST) charge, and we'll tell you before you book.
Crossing the river the long way
Teneriffe is a short cross-river ferry ride from the end of Oxford Street, and Hamilton faces Bulimba across the water. A truck can't take the ferry. With no bridge on Bulimba's riverfront, any move from the north bank goes around by road, and that drive is part of the job.
- Across the river. For moves to or from Teneriffe, New Farm or Hamilton, we build the road trip into your estimate from the start.
- Next door. Hawthorne and Balmoral share Bulimba's 4171 postcode. The distance is short, but there are often stairs at both ends.
- The Gold Coast and beyond. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, and handle interstate removals too.
Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee, confirmed before you book. At the other end, our unpacking service can place cartons room by room and take the empty boxes away. For other suburbs nearby, see our Brisbane southside removalists page.
