Bardon removalists in the foothills of Mount Coot-tha
Bardon sits about 5.7 kilometres north-west of the Brisbane CBD, on the eastern side of Mount Coot-tha. Its ridges are separated by steep gullies. Simpsons Road and Macgregor Terrace follow the ridgelines, and the side streets that connect to them are among Brisbane's steepest. The area was once too steep for horse-drawn trams, and had to wait for electric ones.
The homes are mostly big. In the 2021 Census, separate houses made up 81.2 per cent of Bardon's occupied private dwellings, and 47.6 per cent had four or more bedrooms, against 38.8 per cent across Queensland. Family households made up 77 per cent of homes. Council's heritage register also lists a number of Bardon's Queenslanders.
Put those together and a typical Bardon move is a large load on a sloping block. We plan both: the volume, so the right truck and crew arrive, and the grade, so every piece reaches the truck under control. The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers. Larger crews are available, with charges confirmed before you book.

Steep driveways and long carries
On Bardon's steeper streets, the driveway is often the hardest part of the job. A loaded truck can't always use it safely, and the walk to the kerb can be long and uneven.
- We look at the driveway first. Send photos from the street and from the house. If the truck can't use the driveway, the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge is confirmed before you book.
- Controlled on the grade. Heavy pieces are strapped to trolleys and handled from both ends on a slope. Nothing is left to roll.
- Weather on a slope. Council notes that Brisbane's storm season typically runs from October to March. Wet concrete and timber steps slow a steep site, so we wrap furniture before it leaves the house and keep the pace safe.
- Garden steps and retaining walls. If the route crosses garden steps or terraces, tell us. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight.
Split levels and multi-storey homes
On a sloping block, a house can have more levels than it shows from the street. Council's heritage register includes a memorable Bardon example at 24 Macgregor Terrace: a circa-1951 home with a three-storey A-frame form, known locally as the Fairy House. Most homes are more conventional, but internal stairs and landings still decide how a move runs.
- Label cartons by level as well as room. "Lower level, study" saves a trip up and down the internal stairs.
- Photograph each staircase, including the landing and the narrowest turn. A king bed base or a tall wardrobe may need dismantling to make that turn safely.
- Tell us which entry the truck should serve. If the garage is at the bottom of the block and the front door is at the top, the right entry can save a lot of carrying.
- Name the rooms at the new home. A simple floor plan with rooms marked by level lets the crew place each piece first time.
Basic dismantling and reassembly is included with our house moving service.
Packing a large family home
With nearly half of Bardon's homes at four bedrooms or more, packing is often the biggest single task. Our packing team can take on the whole house, or only the parts you'd rather hand over.
- Partial packing for kitchens, glassware, artwork and other fragile or high-care items, with bubble wrap and dish paper supplied on request at no extra charge.
- Full packing in the days before the move, room by room and labelled by level.
- Heavy pieces, assessed. Items over 90 kg, such as stone-topped tables or gym equipment, are $48 including GST each. Piano relocation is $149 including GST, subject to an access assessment.
- A clear-out first. Old furniture, mattresses and garage clutter can go with our junk removal service. Disposal is charged by weight, with a minimum of $95 including GST.

Macgregor Terrace and timing
Bardon's main through-route runs as Jubilee Terrace, Macgregor Terrace, Boundary Road and Rouen Road, continuing into Frederick Street, Toowong, with a link to the Western Freeway. Three major roads from the west and north converge on Macgregor Terrace, along with two from the east and south, and the result is congestion in peak periods. Bardon also has four primary schools, so school-day mornings and afternoons add their own traffic.
- Start outside the peak where the route allows. Travel time is part of the hourly charge.
- Book a weekend or after-hours move if weekday timing is tight, subject to availability.
- Give us the full street address. Whether you call it Rainworth, Jubilee or simply Bardon, the street number and suburb get the crew to the right door.
Moving to or from Bardon
- Into the city. Latrobe Terrace follows the ridgetop from Bardon down through Paddington towards the CBD. City apartments mean lifts, docks and booking windows, so we plan those first.
- Neighbouring hills. Moves to Paddington and Auchenflower are short, but usually involve stairs and slopes at both ends. Further west, we also move homes in Pullenvale.
- West and south. The Boundary Road and Rouen Road route links to the Western Freeway for the western suburbs. We also move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions.
- Further afield. For regional Queensland and interstate, see long-distance removals.
At the new home, our unpacking and setup service can put cartons on the right level, reassemble beds and take the used packing away.

What a Bardon move costs
We charge by the hour, so preparation is what keeps the total down. A clear driveway plan, labelled cartons and an accurate inventory all save time on the day.
- $125 to $169 per hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers. Additional movers and larger trucks are available, with charges confirmed before booking.
- Included at no extra charge: quilted blankets, furniture pads, dollies, hand trolleys, ratchet straps, stretch wrap and basic dismantling and reassembly.
- $48 incl. GST each, where they apply: a truck-inaccessible driveway, stair flights, appliances, items over 90 kg, hoisting, an extra pick-up or drop-off, or an extra trip.
- Travel: depot-to-depot or a call-out fee, confirmed before you book. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
A deposit secures your date, and we ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. See our pricing page for the detail, then request a quote with photos of the driveway, the stairs and the largest pieces. Our team aims to call new enquiries back within five minutes during business hours.
