Taringa removalists for a suburb on a ridge
Taringa is 6.8 kilometres by road south-west of the Brisbane CBD, bordered by Toowong, Indooroopilly, St Lucia and Mount Coot-tha. Its shape is the first thing a removalist notices. A ridge runs the length of Swann Road, with steep slopes on either side, and Queensland Places records that interwar houses were built on those slopes. On a steep block, the front door is seldom level with the kerb.
Not every older house is timber. Council's heritage register lists 20 Morrow Street, a large Interwar Old English house of face brick and terracotta tile built around 1938. Taringa also has many detached homes in the Queenslander style.
The suburb is denser than its houses suggest. At the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up 62.3 per cent of Taringa's occupied homes, townhouses and semi-detached homes 9.2 per cent, and separate houses 27.9 per cent. Two-bedroom homes were the most common, at 45.2 per cent, and 47.6 per cent of homes were rented. Being next to the University of Queensland makes it popular with students.
Whether it's a Queenslander on a slope or a third-floor unit, the rate is the same: $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.
Steep blocks and sloping driveways
On a Taringa slope, the hard part of the move is often the distance between the front door and the truck.
- Tell us which way the block falls. A house below the street means carrying everything up. A house above it means stairs down to the footpath. Both take longer than a flat path, so we plan the crew and time around them.
- Driveways. A steep or narrow driveway may not suit a loaded truck. If it can't be used, a $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge applies and we plan the carry from the street.
- Stairs. Count the outside stairs as well as the inside ones. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight.
- Wet weather. Steep paths and timber stairs get slippery. In heavy rain, the crew may slow down or pause for safety, and we'll talk with you about timing.
Our house moving service includes basic dismantling and reassembly, which can make all the difference on a narrow set of stairs.

Walk-up units and two-bedroom moves
If your unit block has no lift, the stairwell sets the pace. A sofa that fits through the front door may still not make the turn on a landing.
- Measure the stairwell at its tightest landing, plus the building entry and your front door.
- Dismantle early. Bed frames, tables, desks and modular sofas come apart before they go down the stairs, and go back together at the other end.
- Find the truck a spot. Unit blocks often have limited visitor parking. Tell us where the truck can stand, and arrange a permit if your street needs one. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
- Small loads, hourly rate. A one- or two-bedroom unit, or a few pieces of furniture, is charged at the same hourly rate, so a smaller move simply takes less time. See our furniture and small moves.
Moving into a building with a lift? Our apartment removals follow the building's booking and loading rules.
Measure before you lift
In tight homes, size causes more trouble than weight. A long sofa, a tall wardrobe or a solid dining table has to pass a gate, a door, a hallway and a final turn into the room. Fitting into your current home doesn't prove it will fit into the next one.
- Measure the length, width and height of your largest pieces, and note which ones come apart.
- Measure the gate, front door, hallway and stair landing at both addresses.
- Flag glass tops, stone benches and mirrors so we can wrap and carry them separately.
- If a piece can't safely fit, we'll tell you before moving day rather than force it.
Items over 90 kg carry a $48 (incl. GST) charge each, and hoisting is $48 per item where it really is the safest route. See our heavy item moves for how we assess them.

Moggill Road, the station and moves nearby
Taringa's shops and commercial buildings cluster along Moggill Road, which runs from Toowong out through Taringa and Indooroopilly towards Kenmore. Taringa railway station, on the Ipswich, Rosewood and Springfield lines, has served the suburb since the 1870s.
- Moggill Road addresses. If you're loading from a flat above a shop or an office on Moggill Road, tell us about loading zones and rear access. A busy main road needs a clear plan for where the truck stands.
- Business moves. For a practice, studio or small office, see our office removals. After-hours and weekend moves are available, subject to availability.
- Next door. Moves to St Lucia, Indooroopilly or Auchenflower are short drives, so most of the time goes on loading and unloading.
- Further afield. We also move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, as well as long-distance and interstate.

Before your Taringa move
- Note which way your block slopes and how many steps lie between the door and the street.
- Photograph the driveway and tell us if a truck can't safely use it.
- Measure your largest pieces and the tightest stair landing at both addresses.
- List glass or stone-topped furniture, mirrors and anything over 90 kg.
- Tell us where the truck can park, and arrange a permit if your street needs one.
- Leave bed and flat-pack dismantling to the crew if you're unsure; it's included.
