Kalinga removals, beside Kedron Brook

Kalinga is a small suburb about 7 kilometres north of central Brisbane, bounded to the north by Kedron Brook. It is predominantly flat, about 10 metres above sea level, and mostly residential, with the rest given over to parks. Interwar Queenslanders sit alongside houses and flats from later decades.

The homes are large. In the 2021 Census, separate houses made up 89.3 per cent of Kalinga's occupied private dwellings, and 55.0 per cent had four or more bedrooms, against 38.8 per cent across Queensland.

Flat streets make truck access easier. They don't make the load smaller. On a Kalinga move, volume is usually the bigger factor: rooms, garage, outdoor living and the heavy pieces large homes collect. We plan for that from the start. The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.

Kalinga is one of Brisbane's newer suburbs on paper. The name was used for decades for a neighbourhood within Wooloowin, and Kalinga was only officially gazetted as a suburb on 16 October 2015, following requests from local residents. Both suburbs share the 4030 postcode.

That history can still turn up in paperwork. An older lease, a strata record or a printed map may say Wooloowin for a home that is now in Kalinga.

• Give us the full street address and the suburb on your current lease or contract. If they differ, tell us both.
• Name the entrance. Corner blocks and homes beside parks can have more than one frontage. Tell us which one the truck should use.
• List every stop. An extra pick-up or drop-off, such as a storage unit, is $48 including GST per location, so it belongs in the quote from the start.

Kalinga's landmark home is Kedron Lodge on Nelson Street, built from 1860 for Alfred Lutwyche, the first judge of Queensland's Supreme Court. It is a two-storey sandstone residence of twenty rooms beside Kedron Brook, with a cedar staircase, and it is on the Queensland Heritage Register. Few homes are on that scale, but plenty of large homes hold pieces that need the same level of planning.

• Pianos. Piano relocation is $149 including GST on top of the hourly rate, subject to an access assessment. Tell us the type of piano and send photos of the route, including any front stairs on an older Queenslander.
• Heavy and bulky items. Safes, stone-topped tables, gym equipment and other items over 90 kg are $48 including GST each, and each is assessed. See heavy items.
• Antiques and fine furniture. Quilted blankets, furniture pads and stretch wrap protect polished timber and glass, and our packing team handles fragile and high-care items.
• Plain answers. If an item needs specialist handling beyond what our crew and equipment can do safely, we'll tell you before the move.

With more than half of Kalinga's homes at four bedrooms or more, the inventory is the most important part of the quote.

• Count rooms, not just bedrooms. Studies, rumpus rooms, under-house storage, the garage and outdoor living areas all add volume.
• Right-size the crew. Our standard crew is two to three movers, matched to the job. Additional movers and larger trucks are available, with charges confirmed before booking.
• Aim for one trip. An extra trip between loading and unloading is $48 including GST. A complete inventory helps us send a truck that fits the whole load.
• Set up the essentials first. Our unpacking and setup service can unpack kitchens and bedrooms first, reassemble furniture and take the cartons away.

The M7 Airport Link passes beneath Kalinga in a tunnel. It connects the CBD and the Clem7 tunnel with the East–West Arterial Road, which leads to Brisbane Airport, and meets the Gateway Motorway at Toombul. Part of its construction site was at Kalinga Park.

• Flying out on moving day? The airport is close by road, so you can hand over the keys and head for a flight once the truck is loaded. Leave a generous buffer, because moving time depends on volume and access.
• The Gold Coast. The Gateway Motorway runs south to Eight Mile Plains and the Pacific Motorway, the route to the Gold Coast. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions.

• Next door. Moves to Wooloowin, Clayfield or Grange are short runs, where access at both ends sets the time.

Kalinga Park runs along the south-west bank of Kedron Brook. It was opened in 1910, covers about 20 hectares and is on the Queensland Heritage Register, with its war memorial gates at the end of Park Street. The Kedron Brook bikeway follows the brook along the suburb's north-east edge.

• Facing the park? Tell us where the truck can legally stop closest to your door, and how far the carry is.
• Low-lying land near the brook. Council's Flood Awareness Map shows possible flood extents and historic flood events for any Brisbane address. Check it before deciding what to store under the house or in the garage.
• Storm season. Council notes that Brisbane's storm season typically runs from October to March. We wrap furniture before it leaves the house, and a morning start can help on a stormy summer day.

• Travel: depot-to-depot or a call-out fee, confirmed before you book. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
