Removalists in a small suburb with two stations
Wooloowin covers about 1.1 square kilometres, roughly 6 kilometres north-north-east of the Brisbane CBD, between Clayfield, Albion, Lutwyche, Kedron and Kalinga. It has two railway stations, Wooloowin and Eagle Junction, and Wooloowin State School stands on Lutwyche Road. Kalinga was split off from it as a separate suburb in 2015.
The housing divides almost evenly. In 2021, flats and apartments made up 48.0 per cent of Wooloowin's occupied private dwellings and separate houses 46.1 per cent. Almost half of all homes were rented, and the average home had 2.7 bedrooms, against 3.2 across Queensland.
So Wooloowin moves come in every size, from a single couch to a four-bedroom house. The rate is the same for all of them: $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers, with blankets, pads and straps included.
Cottages from the railway boom
The Sandgate railway line opened through Albion and Wooloowin on 10 May 1882, and subdivision followed quickly. Brisbane City Council's heritage records describe the Maida Hill Estate, sold from 1884, as predominantly working class. Council's record for 17 Wooloowin Avenue describes a modest 1880s timber cottage, one of a few such cottages to survive in the area.
Small houses bring their own moving challenges:
- Narrow hallways. Measure the hallway and the tightest doorway. A sofa that came in through the back may need to leave the same way.
- Little room to stage. With less floor space, we load in a planned order so boxes don't pile up at the door.
- Dismantle what you can. Beds, tables and desks come apart, and basic dismantling and reassembly are included.
- Stairs at the front. If the house sits up off the ground, count the steps. Where a stair charge applies, it's $48 including GST per flight.

Interwar flats and walk-up units
Wooloowin's flats aren't all recent. Council's heritage record for 76 Adamson Street describes a Functionalist block of flats built around 1938–39, during a late-1930s boom in inner-Brisbane flat building. It is one of only a few Functionalist blocks of flats built in Brisbane before the Second World War.
Older blocks are often walk-ups. A few things help:
- Count the flights at both ends. They affect crew, timing and price.
- Check the stairwell. Measure the narrowest landing against your fridge, sofa and bed base.
- Know where the truck can stand. If there's no driveway or off-street space, tell us the nearest legal spot. Arrange any permit early; costs are passed on.
- Book the lift. In a newer block with a lift, book it with building management and tell us the window.
Our apartment and unit removals cover walk-ups and lift buildings alike.
Renters, small moves and short notice
With almost half of Wooloowin's homes rented, plenty of moves here run to a lease end date. Small and short-notice moves are part of the job.
- Book early, change carefully. A deposit secures your date and the balance is paid on completion. We ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule; later cancellations incur a cancellation fee.
- Urgent moves. Last-minute bookings are available, subject to availability. Request a quote as soon as you know your date.
- Single items and small loads. A new bed, a sofa from a sale or a one-bedroom unit: our furniture removals handle small jobs too.
- Packing on a deadline. Our packing team can pack the whole home or just the kitchen, including after-hours packing.

Driveways, kerbs and Lutwyche Road
In a small, mixed suburb, the main question on moving day is often where the truck can park.
- Near the stations. If you live close to Wooloowin or Eagle Junction station, tell us how near the truck can get to your entry.
- On Lutwyche Road. If you're on or just off Lutwyche Road, a start outside peak hours makes loading easier.
- Driveways. If the truck can't use your driveway, the $48 (incl. GST) truck-inaccessible driveway charge applies, and we plan the carry from the street.
- Quieter days. After-hours, weekend and public holiday moves are available, subject to availability.
Moving to or from Wooloowin
- Next door. Moves to Clayfield or Kalinga are short, but cottage-to-flat or flat-to-house moves still need access planned at both ends.
- Into the city. The CBD is about 6 kilometres away, so drive time is small. The building at the other end usually takes more planning.
- Further away. We move between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in both directions, and offer long-distance and interstate removals.
- Into storage. Between leases? Our storage transfers cover pick-ups from and deliveries to storage.
At the new place, our unpacking service puts cartons in the right rooms, assembles basic furniture and takes the empty boxes away. Travel is charged depot-to-depot or as a call-out fee and confirmed before you book.
