Graceville removalists for Queenslanders and family homes
Graceville is 7.8 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane CBD, beside the Brisbane River, with its railway station at the centre of the suburb. Its housing is overwhelmingly family homes. At the 2021 Census, 88.4 per cent of occupied homes were separate houses and 8.0 per cent were townhouses or semi-detached homes. Just 3.3 per cent were flats or apartments, and half of all homes (50.8 per cent) had four or more bedrooms.
Many of those homes began as expansive interwar Queenslanders. The University of Queensland's Queensland Places history records that some were removed to make way for units, but more have been renovated. Council's heritage register shows how far back that goes: 161 Graceville Avenue, an Arts and Crafts house built around 1914, was probably extended in the early 1920s, and its original one-acre grounds were later subdivided.
So the house you're leaving may have an extension, a renovated lower level or rooms that didn't exist when it was built. We quote on the home as it is now. The rate is $125 to $169 an hour + GST for a moving truck and two professional movers.

Moving out for a renovation
When a Queenslander is being raised, extended or rebuilt, the furniture has to go somewhere first. These moves have more stages than a straight relocation, so plan them as a sequence.
- Into storage. We pick up from your home and deliver to your storage facility, then bring everything back when the builders finish. See storage transfers.
- Split loads. If some furniture goes to a rental and the rest to storage, each additional drop-off is $48 including GST.
- Pack for the wait. Belongings that sit in storage for months need sturdy cartons and good wrapping. Our packing team can pack the fragile rooms, or the whole house.
- Coming home. When the house is ready, our unpacking team can place furniture, reassemble beds and take the empty cartons away.
Builders and trades are separate. Disconnecting appliances that are plumbed in or hard-wired needs a licensed plumber or electrician, booked by you before moving day.
Family moves and the first night
In a family home, the first evening in the new house matters more than the last carton. We plan the unload around it.
- Label the essentials. Pack a first-night box for each person with bedding, chargers, toiletries, medication and a change of clothes. Mark kitchen basics separately.
- Beds early. Tell us which beds need reassembly, and we can put them together early in the unload so bedrooms are ready first.
- Furniture before cartons. A simple room plan lets the crew place large pieces before carton stacks fill the floor.
- Kids' rooms. Setting up a child's room first can make the first night easier. Our unpacking service can unpack nominated rooms rather than the whole house.
- Carton removal. Used cartons and packing materials can be taken away as part of an agreed unpacking scope.

Clearing out before you move
Years in one house build up furniture, toys, sports gear and boxes nobody has opened in a long time. Moving is the moment to decide what goes, and every item you don't move is time you don't pay for.
- Sort before the quote. Tell us what's moving and what's going, so each is quoted properly.
- Junk removal. Our junk removal service takes furniture, mattresses, appliances, whitegoods and clutter. It is charged on time plus disposal by weight and type at transfer station rates, with a minimum disposal charge of $95 including GST. Recyclables go to recycling where practical.
- What we can't take. Hazardous materials, chemicals, asbestos, gas bottles and flammables are excluded. That matters in older homes being renovated, where suspected asbestos needs a licensed specialist.
Streets, the station and flood history
Graceville's main roads are Honour Avenue, which runs from Chelmer through Graceville to Sherwood, Oxley Road and Graceville Avenue. Graceville station on the Ipswich line sits at the centre, and the main shopping areas are Graceville Riverside Village on Graceville Avenue and the Fiveways.
- Near the shops or station? Tell us where the truck can stand, and arrange a permit if your street needs one. Parking and permit costs are passed on.
- Flood history. In January 2011, the east side of Graceville was badly flooded by the Brisbane River and Oxley Creek. Water covered Faulkner Park and reached halfway along Graceville Avenue. If your house has been raised since, count the stairs front and back. Where a stair charge applies, it is $48 including GST per flight.
- Townhouse complexes. Check whether the truck can use the common driveway and where it can park without blocking neighbours.
- Next door. Chelmer is a short run up Honour Avenue. Indooroopilly is across the Walter Taylor Bridge, which Brisbane City Council closed to all vehicles for a series of weekend and Saturday-night works in 2026, so check Council's notices before you book.
